Today, automotive customers are prioritizing their purchase decisions based on technological features and appearance. They have access to many new technologies and trends through digital media. The customer will have more demand for appearances with nice features. One example would be that a nice exterior design should come with a sleek LED or laser headlight. That is why some car manufacturers even have to embed the technology name into the headlight in order to let the customer know.

When designing a car's color, buyers seek options that express their individuality and taste. While some gravitate towards timeless hues like black, white, or silver for their sophistication, others go for daring and lively tones to stand out on the streets. Practical factors, such as dirt concealment and complementing the car's design, may also play a role in color selection. Ultimately, choosing a car's color is a personal decision that greatly impacts its overall appearance and feel.

4 Technology Design

The technology design of a car is the fourth impression that it makes on the potential buyer. It improves the performance, functionality, and innovation of the car and the driver. Some of the technology design elements that car buyers prioritize are the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, and electronics of the car. Depending on the segment, car buyers may opt for a powerful and fast engine, a smooth and responsive transmission, a stable and comfortable suspension, a reliable and safe brake system, or a smart and advanced electronic system. The technology design also reflects the competitive and social preferences of the car buyers. For example, car buyers who value speed and thrill may opt for a turbocharged or hybrid engine, while car buyers who value safety and convenience may opt for a driver-assist or autonomous system.

As you can see, there are many design elements that car buyers prioritize when they are shopping for a new car. As an automotive designer, you need to balance these elements and create a car that meets the customer needs and preferences in your target segment, region, and generation. By doing so, you can increase the appeal and value of your car and stand out from the competition.

Nowadays car buyers exhibit a tendency to prioritize 'features', akin to their discernment in selecting mobile phones. However, it is imperative for prospective car buyers needs to understand its far beyond features. They must delve deeper by engaging in test drives to truly grasp the engine performance, overall vehicle handling, maneuverability, stability, acceleration, braking capabilities, suspension quality, and other pivotal aspects. While many buyers look for factors like the infotainment screen size, various applications, cloud connectivity, etc. a shift in focus towards fundamental elements such as the vehicle's safety ratings and essential safety features like dual front airbags, ABS, ESP, etc., is recommended.

The design language from a a designer's perspective is different and what the customer needs might be different, the designer keeping the futuristic ideology sketches his ideas and brings into production. The market might not digest the futuristic design from the brand. Some cases, there are designs which standout to attract customers, Some times the technology, interior, exteriors are well done to the standards and still cannot be the show stealer in amongst its competitors. But I believe, the design cannot be explained, it has to be experienced.
