But, practically, one might face a situation where he wants to furnish or attach the Aadhaar card’s copy but has not received the Aadhaar from UIDAI to date. Before we go ahead with the process of downloading the Aadhaar card, let us understand one more important concept. UIDAI gives you the option to download
- Regular Aadhaar
- Masked Aadhar
Regular Aadhaar is your normal copy of your Aadhaar card, whereas masked Aadhaar has the digits of your Aadhaar masked (i.e. hidden). Only the last four digits in the masked aadhaar can be viewed. Masked aadhaar is used in case the person does not want to share the details or keep their aadhaar number secret.

You can download an e-Aadhaar using a few steps and a single OTP that would be sent to your registered phone number.
- Visit one of the UIDAI websites, either https://uidai.gov.in/ or https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. Move the cursor to My Aadhaar Tab and click on Download Aadhaar.
- Scroll down to locate the "Download Aadhar" option and click on it.
- If you know your Aadhar number, provide it. For new users, enter either the 16-digit Virtual ID (VID) or the 28-digit Enrollment ID (EID).
- Enter the displayed CAPTCHA and click on ‘Send OTP’ to generate an OTP (One-Time Password).
- Have your mobile phone handy, as you will receive the OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on ‘Verify & Download’.
- Check your download folder for the downloaded Aadhar Card. Note that it is a password-protected file.
