1,092-HP Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Is A Tesla Slaying Track Monster (2024)

After establishing a new electric production-car lap record at the Nürburgring earlier this year with a Taycan prototype, Porsche has now introduced the finalized production version, named the Taycan Turbo GT, at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California where it also secured another lap record.

The new insanely fast flagship of Porsche’s EV portfolio produces up to 1,092 hp (815 kW / 1,108 PS), and is blessed with a series of aerodynamic and chassis upgrades, in line with the legacy of Porsche’s GT-branded models. Furthermore, the optional Weissach package contributes to weight reduction by eliminating the rear seats and replacing them with a carbon fiber bulkhead, transforming the vehicle into a two-seater track-focused powerhouse.

The Taycan Turbo GT features an upgraded iteration of the dual-motor powertrain utilized in the Taycan Turbo S. Porsche engineers incorporated a new rear electric motor controlled by a “more powerful and efficient pulse inverter,” employing silicon carbide as the semiconductor material. Additionally, they enhanced the transmission ratio and bolstered the gearbox’s durability.

As a result, the combined output reaches 777 hp (580 kW / 789 PS). With launch control activated, this climbs to 1,019 hp (760 kW / 1,033 PS), and peaks at the full 1,092 hp (815 kW / 1,108 PS) available for two seconds. These figures crown the Taycan Turbo GT as the most powerful series-production Porsche to date, surpassing all other Taycan variants and even the 918 Spyder. Additionally, the torque figure is rated at a formidable 988 lb-ft (1,340 Nm).

According to Porsche, the new 2025 Taycan Turbo GT accelerates from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 2.2 seconds, or 2.1 seconds with the optional Weissach package. Similarly, the 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) sprint is completed in 6.6 seconds or 6.4 seconds respectively, while the top speed is 190 mph (306 km/h).

Another highlight is the Attack Mode which unlocks an extra 160 hp (120 kW / 163 PS) of power for 10 seconds, inspired by the Formula E racers. While the standard Taycan already featured a “push-to-pass” function, the Attack Mode offers more significant boost and is easier to activate and deactivate using the right-hand paddle.

More Aggressive Looks And A Revised Chassis Setup

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT embodies its track-focused character with a redesigned body kit. The standout visual feature is the adaptive rear spoiler with a Gurney flap. This wing is complemented by a prominent splitter with integrated “aeroblades,” along with a similar treatment for the rear diffuser. Combined with the air deflector elements on the underbody, the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package generates a total downforce of 485 lbs (220 kg).

Additionally, it boasts carbon fiber finishes on the B-pillars, matching the inlays on the side skirts and mirror caps. The model is offered in six colors, including the new Pale Blue Metallic and Purple Sky Metallic featured in the gallery. Furthermore, owners have the option to further customize it with decals or through the optional paint-to-sample program offered by the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur division.

Most notably, it comes equipped with a new set of 21-inch lightweight forged wheels wrapped in grippier tires. Apart from reducing weight, the wheel spokes are engineered to enhance the cooling of Porsche’s upgraded ceramic brakes, which are accentuated by the Victory Gold calipers. This reinforced braking system is complemented by a Turbo GT-specific tuning for the standard Porsche Active Ride suspension.

Inside, Porsche chose Race-Tex and black leather upholstery for the 18-way adjustable Adaptive Sports Seats and the GT Sport steering wheel. The Turbo GT emblem can be found on the headrests, and the center console. The pictured dark-themed cabin can be optionally spruced up with Volt Blue, or GT Silver contrasting tones, alongside different shades for the contrasting stitching.

Weissach Package Deletes Rear Seats

For hardcore enthusiasts, the Weissach package takes things to extremes, stripping away rear seats, the analog clock, floor and trunk mats, and insulation material to maximize weight reduction. Porsche even opts for a single manually operated charging port on the passenger side and lighter trunk materials.

Additionally, the Sound Package Plus ditches the Bose Surround Sound system in favor of special sound- and heat-insulating glass. These measures make the Taycan Turbo GT up to 157 lbs (71 kg) lighter than the Taycan Turbo S, enhancing the power-to-weight ratio.

Porsche announced that the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package holds the title of the “fastest electric series-production car” at the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, clocking a lap time of 1:27.87. This record-setting run occurred on February 23, 2024, with Porsche development driver Lars Kern behind the wheel.

In January 2024, a pre-production prototype of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, driven by the same driver, achieved a remarkable lap time of 7:07.55 at the Nürburgring, earning the title of the “fastest four-door of any powertrain type” at the Green Hell. This impressive feat outpaces the rival Tesla Model S Plaid by 18 seconds, the Taycan Turbo S by 26 seconds, and falls just 2.25 seconds short of the Rimac Nevera hypercar’s time.

One Very Pricey EV

Deliveries of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT are anticipated to begin in summer 2024. Pricing starts at $230,000 before tax, title, registration, dealer charges, and a $1,995 delivery fee. This marks a $21,000 increase compared to the Taycan Turbo S, establishing it as the most expensive Taycan variant to date.
